If you are going for a day hike on the other hand it may be sufficient to just bring along a light jacket. You will of course need to make sure that you are prepared for any weather that is likely to occur during your trip. You will also want to dress in layers so that you can adjust how much you are wearing as the weather changes.

Anytime that you are heading out into the wilderness you are going to want to bring along a survival kit. Anything can happen while you are out there so you need to be prepared for it. The best way to do this is to have a small kit that you keep in your position in case you get stranded. This should not be in your pack but rather on your body so that you will have it with you if you lose your pack. At a minimum it should include a knife and a way to start a fire. It is also a good idea to make sure that you include a small first aid kit so that you are prepared for any injuries.
